Who doesn’t get a little excited when they hear the word prom? It is one of the biggest nights for American teens. For one night, the worries of exams and homework traded in for illustrious dresses, sharp tuxes, and an overall good time! To make sure that this night goes smoothly for all parties, A Cut Above Photo Booth has put together four do’s and don’ts of organizing a prom night.
Organize Planning Committee
One of the most important aspects of putting together any event is making sure that you have the right people in place to help with event planning. You will need people who are organized, committed, and trustworthy as they will be the core to making sure prom night goes right.
Set a Budget
This is where many people run into problems. There needs to be a treasurer on your planning committee as well. They will ensure that all of your ideas come to fruition as long as the funds allow it. And if funds are short, the team can either devise ways of obtaining additional funds or cut items off the list.
Give a Heads-Up
People are always going to want to attend prom so the least you can do is give them proper time to prepare for the grand occasion. While the guys just need to get fitted for a tux and a nice haircut, most girls will need to set hair, nail and makeup appointments that in some cases need to be set months ahead of time.
Assemble Chaperones!
Sorry kids, but chaperones are needed. Whether those individuals are parents of students or faculty members with a free night to give, having people to watch over the students while you and your team handle everything going on behind the scenes is always helpful.
Don’ts of Organizing a Prom Night
Procrastinate
The worst thing to do is wait until the last minute. Planning for the next prom should start as soon as one ends. The earlier you start planning, the easier it is for you to address changes on the spot rather than waiting until a year later to try and remember what you could have done better.
Forget to Set Rules
While the students may feel that they’re are all grown-up now, rules still need to be set. Everything from who can/can’t attend to what attire is inappropriate. The clearer the rules are, the fewer questions there should be and the smoother prom night should run.
Ignore Students
Student voices matter! This event is ultimately their event and it should be catered to what they would like first. Granted, having a foam pit in the middle of the dance floor may be a little over the top but when it comes down to a preferred DJ or theme, the students should have some sort of say so.
Forget to Make Checklist
Finally, you want a tangible way to ensure that everything went to plan (or completely wrong). Things do tend to get hectic when planning a prom and items may get skipped over. When prom is over and the lights shut off, that checklist will assist you in making next year’s prom even better!
